Alex Iwobi Is The First Nigerian Man To Score In The Finals Of A European Club Competition

Last night, Arsenal suffered a 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the Europa League finals. Despite the loss, one of the most talked-about players was Alex Iwobi, who scored the only goal for the Gunners and, in the process, became the first Nigerian man to score in the finals of a European club competition.

The consolation goal came just two minutes after Iwobi was brought on as a substitute in the second half.  The 23-year-old delivered a thunderstrike from outside the penalty area that eluded Chelsea’s defence and goalkeeper, sparking hopes of a possible comeback.

Throughout the match, Iwobi was in his best form, even delivering a number of assists. However, that comeback didn’t happen and Arsenal’s dreams of making it to next season’s Champions League is dead. Nevertheless, Iwobi came away from the match looking pretty great.
