Arsenal is back among the top four in the Premier League, thanks to their away win against Watford yesterday. Although he didn’t score the winning goal, Alex Iwobi put up a good performance and even went on to earn a Premier League record for most open play passes in a match this season.
According to football stats website, WhoScored, Iwobi made seven key passes from open play during the match. That is five times more than his teammates, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil, and also more than any other Premier League player in a single match this season.
This means he created a solid number of chances for goals as the game was on, as opposed to the chances created during set plays like free kicks and corners. He also attempted three shots with one on target, got an 88.7% passing accuracy and topped off his performance with three tackles.
Arsenal fans may find Iwobi frustrating sometimes, but there’s no doubt that he takes risks and some of them just come with great rewards.
