Since their retirement from international football, we haven’t seen a lot of Michael Essien and Osaze Odemwingie. Now, the duo has made a comeback the football stage, and they’re doing so in style – as superheroes!
FIFA recently released Legends Assemble, a short film in which 23 football legends speak up in support of the upcoming 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. With the story’s focus being on changing the world through the tournament, the legends transform into superheroes with unique powers.
While Essien appears as “The Bison”, a superhero who is described as “a wall of indestructible resistance”, Odemwingie is “Aeonian” whose special power is the ability to resurrect from the dead.
For the duration of the tournament, the superheroes will appear in France – capes and all – to inspire the next generation of footballers.
