Coronavirus: FIFA U-20, U-17 Women’s World Cups Moved To 2021

Federation of International Football Association  (FIFA) has postponed the 2020 U-20 and U-17 women’s World Cups to 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak, Completesports.com reports.

FIFA made the announcement in a statement released on their official website on Tuesday.

According to the world football governing body, the U-20 World Cup to be co-hosted by Costa Rica and Panama, was originally scheduled to hold from August to September 2020, but will now hold from 20 January – 6 February 2021.

While the U-17 World Cup to be hosted by India, was initially billed for November 2020 but will now hold 17 February – 7 March 2021.

Also, FIFA announced that this year’s Futsal World Cup in Lithuania will now run from 12 September – 3 October 2021.

It disclosed further that details on its events in 2020 will be communicated in due course.

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, Falconets, were drawn against Burkina Faso in the first round of the qualifiers.

The dates for Africa’s 2020 U-20 women’s World Cup qualifiers was initially scheduled for 20-22 (first-legs) and 27-29 (second-legs) March before it was postponed until further notice.

The Flamingos had thrashed Guinea 11-2 on aggregate, in the first round of the 2020 Africa U-17 women’s World Cup qualifier.

They were drawn against arch-rivals Ghana in the second round of the qualifiers.
