Federal government has apologized to Nigerians for the violation of the social distancing order at late CoF Abba Kyari’s burial.
Boss Mutapha, Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, tendered the apology during the daily media briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday evening, April 20.
After pictures and video from Kyari’s burial showing how the burial was crowded surfaced online, Nigerians took to social media to blast the government. Many people turned out for the burial, thereby violating the several guidelines put in place by the government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the countyr.
Boss Mutapha said it is regrettable that social distancing was not observed during the burial.
The PTD recognizes regrettably the unintentional violation of the principles and protocols that form the core of our messages to Nigerians at the funeral of the late Chief of Staff. These principles for emphasis include the guidance provided on mass gatherings, social distancing, personal hygiene and restriction of movement. Lessons have been learnt and appropriate measures have been taken to close all gaps” he said
