Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is set to be used at the Women’s World Cup this summer, tournament organiser FIFA has confirmed.
FIFA’s Organising Committee has recommended use of VAR for the tournament in France after successful assessment of the video refereeing system and planning in recent months.
A final decision will be taken at the next meeting of the world governing body’s council meeting.
“The chairman of FIFA’s referees committee has updated us on the progress made with regard to the implementation of VAR at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019,” Zvonimir Boban, FIFA’s deputy secretary general said.

“Based on the thorough work carried out over the past few months, FIFA is happy with the steps taken and the excellent job done by FIFA’s refereeing team and the female referees involved.
“We are confident about proposing the use of VAR in France to the Fifa Council, as we are very positive about its implementation.”
VAR was successfully used in the men’s World Cup in Russia last summer.
The tournament will take place across nine host Cities in France: Grenoble, Le Havre, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rennes and Valenciennes from Friday , 7 June to Sunday, July 7.
Hosts France will take on Korea Republic in the competition’s opening ceremony on June 7 at the Parc des Princes.
