The proposed strike action announced by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) seems to have taken full effect in Delta state as some members of the congress this morning moved around to ensure that offices and schools in Asaba the state capital comply with the directive to embark on a strike.

The NLC members moved around in a Hiace mini-bus ensuring that all government offices and schools are shut.

Last week, the NLC threatened to go on strike if the Federal Government fails to meet its demand on the increase in minimum wage. The NLC is demanding 29 per cent increase for officers at grade levels 07 to 14 and 24 per cent adjustment for officers at grade levels 15 to 17. The Federal Government has however proposed an 11 per cent increase for officers at grade level 07 to 14 and 6.5 per cent adjustment for workers at grade level 15 to 17.
