Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte allows citizens to shoot corrupt officials

Rodrigo Duterte, president of the Philippines, said in a speech that anyone can shoot non-lethal bullets at officials who commit acts of corruptionin the country.

If he has a gun, he can shoot them, but not kill them.

In the same vein, he indicated that people who assault corrupt officials will not be sent to prison and will only be accused of causing injuries: “they will only be serious physical injuries and will be released on parole,” he said.

Duterte called on the population to denounce any act of corruption: “if those corrupt officials ask for a bribe, slap them,” he added.

President Rodrigo Duterte acknowledged that corruption is one of his government’s biggest problems.

The president assured that any person who shoots an official who commits acts of corruption will only be accused of causing injuries and will not end up in prison. “It will only be serious physical injuries” and “she will be released on parole,” she said during her speech.
