The world will always remember Nigeria‘s outing at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where the country made history in bobsled and skeleton. Following that debut, the Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria (BSFN) is set to hold the first-ever tryouts in both sports in the country.
Since 2016, when it was established, the federation has scouted athletes outside the country. However, with the likes of foreign-based Seun Adigun and Simidele Adeagbo already flying the country’s flag in winter games, it only makes sense to transfer their skills and experiences to aspiring athletes.
To top it off, Ghana’s first skeleton athlete at the Winter Olympics, Akwasi Frimpong will also be at the tryouts to help groom the next set of skeleton racers. And, if all goes well, the federation will have more than enough talent to field at the next Winter Olympics, taking place in Beijing in 2022.
Before the tryouts on August 31, the federation will hold a coaching clinic tomorrow, August 30. Both events will take place at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. Aspiring athletes and coaches can register here.
