Manchester United fans are planning a special show of support for Paul Pogba in the club’s clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday after the midfielder was subjected to vile racist abuse on social media.

Pogba was targeted by sick trolls after his unfortunate missed penalty as saved by Rui Patricio in United’s 1-1 draw at Wolves on Monday night, leading to widespread calls to tackle abuse of footballers online.

Several of Pogba’s teammates including Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Chris Smalling hit out at the abuse, as did United themselves via their official social media channels.

National Daily confirmed on Wednesday that they are to meet with United and anti-racism group Kick It Out to discuss the way they police football fans online

They said in a statement: “We have always maintained an open and healthy dialogue with our partners in this space, but we know we need to do more to protect our users.

“Racist behaviour has no place on our platform and we strongly condemn it.”

National Daily further gathered that a group of United fans plan to show their support for Pogba during Saturday’s clash Premier League clash with the Eagles.

“We want to really get behind him vocally and let him know he’s got the backing and support of the fans,” a spokesman from the Red Army group, who are responsible for seeking to improve the atmosphere in Old Trafford’s iconic Stretford End this season, told the Manchester Evening News.

Pogba is a divisive character but everyone unanimously backs him when it comes to what happened the other day.

“He needs to know that we have got his back and will always support any United player.”

United face Palace at 3pm GMT on Saturday.
