At Konbini Nigeria, we love discovering and sharing great music with each other (and jamming to our newfound favourites all day long).

But instead of just selfishly sharing these songs amongst ourselves alone, we’ve decided to create a list of all the newly released albums and EPs that have caught our attention, stolen our hearts and are constantly on repeat on our devices.

Last month, we highlighted some great albums and EPs — from GoldLink’s far-reaching Diaspora to Remy Baggins’ transgressive Hentai. Now, we are back to celebrate some July 2019 projects we think you’ll love as much as we do.

The Lion King: The Gift by Beyoncé

Executive produced by Beyoncé, one of the most meticulous artists in the world, The Lion King: The Gift is a thoughtfully curated celebration of Africa’s brightest stars, resulting in a game-changing body of work that will be remembered for years to come.

Standout Tracks: “BROWN SKIN GIRL”, “ALREADY” and “MOOD 4 EVA”.

African Giant by Burna Boy

With the flawlessly produced and performed African Giant, Burna Boy’s most cohesive and fully-formed album to date, the fast-rising afro-fusion star makes a grand, undeniable statement — one that will make him virtually impossible to ignore.

Standout Tracks: “Gum Body”, “Different” and “Secret”.

Cray Cray by Crayon

Following Rema, 2019’s biggest breakout star, could not have been an easy feat, but Crayon — Mavin Records’ latest signee — pulled it off with considerable ease, as his debut project, Cray Cray, proves he is also a hit-making wunderkind in his own right.

Standout Tracks: “So Fine”, “Bamiloke” and “Gock Am”.

As Promised by King Promise

Even with unanimously strong production work and a crop of talented guest acts — Simi, Wizkid and Raye all shine — King Promise is the reason As Promised works so well, with his incredible voice making you feel every word he sings (even when you might not understand it).

Standout Tracks: “Odo”, “Selfish, Pt. 2” and “Tokyo”.

Colour by Juls

Juls is the rare beatsmith whose inimitable production work is hardly ever outshined by the artists he collaborates with, and on his party-starting new project, Colours — which features solid work from Mr Eazi, Falz, Oxlade, Santi and more — that still remains the case.

Standout Tracks: “Nyafu Riddim”, “Angelina” and “Slow Down”.

Angel’s Pulse by Blood Orange

While Angel’s Pulse, Dev Hyne’s self-produced mixtape under the Blood Orange moniker, might not be as pointed or impactful as the British singer’s last two releases, that doesn’t make the 14-track effort any less captivating.

Standout Tracks: “I Wanna C U”, “Dark & Handsome” and “Take It Back”.

Revenge of the Dreamers III by J. Cole and Dreamville

Revenge of the Dreamers III — a fantastic compilation album by J. Cole and his record label, Dreamville — is a project that, unlike the last three featureless releases from the Grammy-nominated rapper, excels due to the unmatched power of collaboration.

Standout Tracks: “Ladies, Ladies, Ladies”, “Got Me” and “1993”.

The Light by Bez Idakula

After a painfully long three-year hiatus, Bez Idakula finally returns with his third studio album, The Light — an infectiously positive body of work that finds the gifted singer-songwriter operating at the peak of his powers, both vocally and lyrically.

Standout Tracks: “Better Days”, “Beauty” and “Go Go Go”.
