Even though he already won the coveted MVP prize at this year’s NBA Awards, Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s awesome outing in the just-concluded season is still being rewarded. He has just been named the ‘Best Male Athlete’ at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards.
The awards recognize individual and team athletic achievements, as well as other sports-related performances. In the 26-year history of the award, this is the first time Antetokounmpo is being nominated in the category, and the 24-year-old beat out four other nominees.
Now, over to the basketball-specific category – ‘Best NBA Player’. Antetokounmpo not only scored a nomination for the second time in a row, but he also won in the category, which included James Harden, his biggest challenger for this year’s NBA MVP award.
With the NBA MVP prize, two ESPY accolades, a top spot as the highest-paid European basketball player, and a signature sneaker that’s doing well in the market, it’s safe to say Antetokounmpo’s year is very much made. Yet, we have a feeling there’s more on the way for the Greek-Nigerian.
Another #ESPYS for the Greek Freak!
