FirstBank, Nigeria’s premier financial institution and leading provider of financial inclusion services, has announced the 63rd edition of the prestigious Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship.
The international tournament, scheduled to take place from November 18 to 24, 2024, at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Course, continues to promote the bank’s commitment to sports development and nation-building under its First@Sports initiative.
Celebrating Over Six Decades of Sporting Excellence
FirstBank’s long-standing history in supporting sports in Nigeria spans over six decades, with a focus on golf, polo, and tennis. The Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship has evolved into Nigeria’s most revered amateur golf competition, drawing top talent from around the globe.

The Lagos Amateur Open has proven to be a vital platform for nurturing future golfing talents, serving as a springboard for several aspiring golfers who have transitioned to the professional ranks. It also provides a global stage for amateurs to showcase their skills while earning valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

New Features for the 2024 Edition
This year’s championship introduces two new sub-events designed to promote inclusivity and empowerment. The “Search for 4 Stars” event will provide opportunities for 150 young aspiring male and female golfers aged 18 to 30, many of whom are currently working as caddies at Ikoyi Club, to display their talents. Additionally, the “Championship Kitty” will allow golfers with a handicap of 10 and above to participate, encouraging a more diverse and inclusive tournament.

Another key element of this year’s event is the continuation of the Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity, with proceeds from team entry fees being donated to charities and NGOs through FirstBank’s SPARK initiative, further emphasizing the tournament’s commitment to giving back to the community.
