John Mastoroudes has backed Augustine Eguavoen to stay on as Super Eagles head coach, reports Completesports.com.

Mastoroudes, who was the owner of the defunct Leventis United declared that it would be fatal for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hire an expatriate now.

“Eguavoen should stay,” Mastouroudes, who served on the Presidential Task Force (PTF) that ensured the Super Eagles qualification to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa told Eagle7.fm.

“It will be fatal to change him now.

“He can qualify the country to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

“After qualification, the question would be can he lead them to win the AFCON.”

The 59-year-old took charge of the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The former defender earned plaudits for the team’s impressive display in both games.

Nigeria defeated neighbours Benin Republic 3-0, and battled to a 0-0 against Rwanda.
