Although the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is still in the group stage, fans have already started guessing which team they think will win the trophy. According to a survey by GeoPoll, most of them are rooting for Egypt to emerge champions in this edition.

The survey, which is contained in a larger report providing insight into the tournament, involved a total of 2400 fans from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and DR Congo. The report says that when it comes to which team is likely to win the tournament, 21% of responses tilted towards Egypt.

Well, we’re not surprised by this result at all. In the past year, Egypt has pulled off a number of truly excellent performances, positioning the team as a top contender in football – not to mention that they enjoy a home advantage as the hosts of this year’s tournament.

But then, it’ll interest Super Eagles fans to know that most fans in the survey chose Nigeria as the second most likely country to win the tournament. Well, the team has started their campaign with their first AFCON opening game win since 2006. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
