Francis Ngannou, the Cameroonian professional boxer, has tendered an apology to his fans after losing heavily to his colleague of Nigerian lineage, Anthony Joshua, in Saudi Arabia on Friday night.
The former world heavyweight champion knocked out the Cameroonian fighter in the second round.
Ngannou, a mixed martial artist, entered the bet with high expectations after a successful boxing debut against Tyson Fury last year, but he fell short against his more experienced Nigerian-British opponent.
The 37-year-old was knocked out in the second round after failing to recover sufficiently from Joshua’s first-round knockdown.
A strong right hand by Joshua forced the referee to stop the fight in the second round.
“Sorry guys I let you all down,” Ngannou wrote on his X account.
“Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day. Thank you all for the love.”
