Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard has advised Tottenham Hotspur’s hotshot, Harry Kane to leave the club, stating that the right time might be the upcoming transfer window for the England skipper to move away from the north London club.

Kane, 29, made history on Thursday night when he scored a first-half penalty in the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Italy in Naples to become the country’s all-time highest goalscorer. Declan Rice had already given Gareth Southgate’s team the lead, and Kane increased their advantage from the penalty spot just before halftime.

It was his first chance to score a penalty in an England shirt since missing one against France in the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar. But he converted this time around, bagging his 54th and record-breaking goal in the Three Lions’ colours, shattering Wayne Rooney’s previous mark of 53.

Just a month ago, the England ace broke the goalscoring record at Tottenham Hotspur to become the player with the most goals in the club’s history when he scored against Manchester City. Surpassing the great Jimmy Greaves’ 266 goals tally.

Unfortunately, the former England midfielder has not won a major trophy for both his club and country.

Gerrard is the most recent ex-footballer to advise the 29-year-old to seek a transfer to another club.

“It’s an incredible penalty, it’s precise and takes the side-netting off. He’s one of the best penalty-takers in the world, that’s why it was such a surprise what happened to him in the World Cup,” Gerrard told Channel 4 as reported by Manchester Evening News.

“But you’re talking about greatness, you’re talking about one of the best No.9s in the world right now and that’s the reason why every transfer window he’s ahead in terms of all the talks because, you know, maybe it is time, maybe it is time for him to move on.”

As England takes on Ukraine in their second European Championship qualifying match on Sunday, Kane will be seeking to increase his goal tally. The Three Lions will welcome the team they defeated in the quarterfinals of the 2020 European Championship at Wembley.
