Former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, has lost his return bid to the Senate. He was defeated at the weekend by Labour Party (LP) candidate, Sir Kelvin Chukwu, who will be representing Enugu East in the upper legislative chamber.
The winner polled 69,136 as against Chimaroke’s 48,701, who contested on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Kelvin replaced his brother, Oyibo, who was murdered few days to the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Although Nnamani had earlier been “expelled” by PDP, he remained in the contest on the strength of the suit he filed in court against the party. He had claimed that the National Working Committee (NWC) did not have power to stop him from participating in the election, especially after his name had been submitted to INEC and final list of candidates displayed.
Besides, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also lost in his Udenu Council to LP. The council also produced deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in the election.
