Megan Thee Stallion is definitely rap’s new It Girl, and with her status, she’s on a mission to instil confidence in every female fan that spits along to her self-assured bars.
Thee Stallion’s empowerment of women isn’t solely expressed through her lyrics though, she also professionally aligns herself with women, such as music video director, Munachi Osegbu, together filling the mainstream with fearless female energy, as on their latest offering, “Realer”.
On “Realer”, Megan Thee Stallion affirms that she is not one to mess with — she follows her threats through so you had better respect her, and yourself too.
The video for “Realer” begins with a news reel announcing that Houston has a problem, and Megan Thee Stallion and her Hotties will solve it. The video bears inspiration from the Blaxploitation films that flooded American cinema during the 1970s, as we see Megan Thee Stallion and her Hot Girls, cruising in retro convertibles dressed in disco spandex.
Munachi Osegbu does a great job of visualising Megan’s aggressive nature in a playful yet still scary way in this video. From toy guns to threatening scowls, Thee Hotties look like a squad that is not to be trifled with, Ill Will Jackson is in for a harsh surprised.
