Former Ghana Football Association, GFA, chairman, Dr. Nyaho-Tamkloe has expressed his support for Asamoah Gyan’s ambition to feature for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place between November 20 and December 18. And 36-year-old Gyan who called it time on international football in 2019 after bagging 109 caps and 51 goals is desirous to come out and feature in his fourth FIFA World following his 2006, 2010, and 2014 appearances.

Gyan in an interview with the BBC made his intention to represent the Black Stars of Ghana at the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup known.

“Anything can happen, it has happened before in 1994, when Roger Milla came back from retirement to play in the World Cup,” Gyan said.

According to GhanaWeb.com Gyan’s statements have been met with uproar by the Ghanaian populace, with many frowning at the former national team’s captain’s return ambition.

Reacting to the issue, Tamakloe lauded Gyan’s achievements for Ghanaian football and compared him to Roger Milla of Cameroon and the first winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1956, Stanley Matthews of England.

“Asamoah Gyan made an incredible mark in Ghanaian football. He is a good footballer and if he has the stamina, why not? Roger Milla opted to play in the World Cup at old age and did well,” Ghanaweb.com quoted Tamakloe as saying.

“He is a good footballer and if he has the stamina, why not? Roger Milla opted to play in the World Cup at old age and did well.

“We can also talk about Stanley Matthews of England who was a key figure in the team and was known as the tactical magician.

“He was later invited to Ghana by Ken Harrison, who was then General manager of Hearts of Oak in the 1950s.”

Qatar 2022 will be Ghana’s fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup finals. After their debut in 2006, the Black Stars featured in the 2010 and 2014 editions, reaching the quarter-finals in that last time out.

The Black Stars will play in Group H at the 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
