Since the 2018 World Cup came to an end, we have been unsure of Mikel Obi’s plans with regards to his future on the Super Eagles team. With the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) around the corner, coach, Gernot Rohr even came up with a list of players who could take his position.
Well, we’re glad that that list won’t be of much use now, as Obi just confirmed that he’ll be available for the tournament in Egypt.
Every country participating in the competition is trying to put their teams together. So, before putting out the list of players who’ll make an appearance for Nigeria, Rohr had to meet with Obi over his future on the team.
AOIFootball reports that Obi made the exciting confirmation at the meeting – and, whether he realises it or not, he has fired up a good number of fans who’ll be looking forward to Nigeria’s outing at the showpiece.
The 32-year-old has appeared in more AFCON competitions than any other current Super Eagles player, and if anything, his extensive experience will certainly come in handy when the team finally heads to Egypt.
Now, if only Rohr could meet with Victor Moses and get him to come out of international retirement.
