NECO shifts exam for Sallah celebration

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has said it had not fixed any paper in the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates for Saturday June 9, 2022, which has been declared Sallah Day (Eid Adha).

The council said this would enable Muslims to have enough time to celebrate the festival.

NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani, made the clarification in a statement yesterday in Minna, the Niger State capital.

The statement reads: “The National Examinations Council (NECO) wishes to state that it has not scheduled any examination for Saturday July 9, 2022.

“This is contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the council has scheduled an examination for July 9, 2022, which is Sallah Day (Eid Adha).

“Conscious of the importance of religious festivals, the council has always made adequate provision for such in fixing examination dates.

“The council has given a whole examination-free week, beginning from Friday, July 8, to Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates to enable Muslim faithful have enough time to celebrate the festival.

“It would be recalled that the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates commenced on June 27, and will end on August 12, 2022.”
