2018 was an undeniably fantastic year for Nigerian music. We not only got some of the best Nigerian songs of the past decade — from Burna Boy’s “Ye” to 2 Baba’s “Amaka” — we also witnessed the rise of some truly gifted stars, particularly Teni and Odunsi The Engine.

Well, we are only 25% done with 2019, and we think this year could be just as monumental as the last. Granted, most artists don’t put out their best work this early in the year, but that doesn’t mean the past three months haven’t already seen the release of some truly great jams.

Even though afropop heavyweights like Wizkid and Tiwa Savage still haven’t released their first official singles of the year, other stars like Burna Boy and Simi have already come through with bangers that could very well end up on our ‘best of 2019’ list when December finally rolls through.

So, to celebrate the talented artists that made the first quarter of this year a musical delight, we’ve gathered 10 of our favourite Nigerian songs released between the 1st of January and the 31st of March 2019 — ranging from Niniola’s party-starting “Designer” to Odunsi’s sultry “Tipsy”.
