The Royal Palace of Olu of Warri has denied the claim in some quarters that His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, has died, insisting that the monarch was merely indisposed.
KanyiDaily recalls that Olu of Warri was alleged to have died on Monday due to COVID-19 complications, but no official statement was issued by the palace.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Palace said the Olu of Warri was alive, adding that he “is indisposed and currently receiving medical attention by a team of qualified medical specialists.”
The palace statement made available to journalists read in part, “The attention of the Palace of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri has been drawn to news/social media speculations announcing the sudden demise of His Majesty.
“We wish to notify the general public that His Majesty is indisposed and currently receiving medical attention by a team of qualified medical specialists.
“Any further information on the subject would be made known to the general public by the office of the traditional Prime Minister of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayirimi Emami, the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom.”
The monarch celebrated the grand finale of his 5th coronation anniversary amidst fanfare barely one week ago. He was visibly lively at that ceremony and did not show any sign of illness as he joyfully received well wishers from far and near who paid him royal homage.
KanyiDaily had also reported how the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, died at the age of 64 after a protracted illness at the COVID-19 isolation centre in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
