Heartbreaking Story Of Married Teachers Who Died Of COVID-19 Complications While Holding Hands

The story has been told of a married couple who died together while holding hands.

The couple worked as teachers died holding hands after the pair contracted coronavirus and doctors warned family members they would not survive.

Paul Blackwell, 61, and Rose Mary Blackwell, 65, died together on Sunday, December 13 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Texas, where the pair were on life support due to Covid complications.

The couple’s son, Christopher Blackwell, said they contracted the virus in early December and checked themselves in but soon required a ventilator to breathe.

Mr and Mrs Blackwell were then placed on life support and hospital workers warned the pair were unlikely to survive.

Christopher, along with other family members, made the difficult decision to take them off of life support, and medics brought their beds together for one last time.

For the last time, doctors interlocked their fingers and the couple died within minutes holding hands.

Christopher told CBS11: “Two of my other brothers are actually in the room there at the hospital and they wheeled my stepmother in there in the room with my father and at the same time, removed them both from the ventilator.”

He added: “They had them holding hands and they were both gone in a couple of minutes. I’ve never seen anything like that before and it’s hard to even put into words seeing that.

“They said ’til death do us part. And that’s how that went.”

It is unclear how the couple contracted Covid but both Mr and Mrs Blackwell kept working until they fell ill.

The pair were conscious about the virus, however, and had even postponed family gatherings with their five kids over the summer due to the threat of the virus.

In a statement, the Grand Prairie school district said: “Rose Mary and Paul will be greatly missed by many.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family, friends, coworkers, and students both current and former.”
