Last year, Dremo announced himself as a star to watch with his debut body of work, Codename – a solid, star-studded EP. Following that, he’s been releasing videos for some of the project’s standout tracks, such as the Davido-assisted “Kpa”, “Bigger Meat” and “Nobody”.
Now, he’s released his first official single of 2019, “Mirror“, where he passes commentary on the state of affairs in Nigeria.
It has always been commonplace for musicians to use their voices to speak up against the ills of society. Older artists like Daddy Showkey and Idris Abdulkareem built their careers around this, and more recent stars like Falz and Burna Boy are carrying on that legacy.
Now, Dremo has added to the conversation with “Mirror”, which finds him urging Nigerians to fight for change. He talks about our president being older than the country, collapsing buildings, lack of jobs and a bunch of other negatives currently plaguing our nation.
While we’re always looking for our musicians to give us jams to turn up to, it’s always good when they also challenge us to take a step back and think about more important things, much like Dremo has achieved with the impressive “Mirror”.
