2022 World Cup: Qatar Unpaid Workers For Months

A company contracted by Qatar to build a stadium for the 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP has been banned after it was discovered labourers went months without pay according to Amnesty International.

The Subcontractor, Qatar Meta Coats (QMC) which has been building the Al Bayt Stadium refused to pay about 100 employees for seven months and continued owing salaries which was revealed in the Amnesty International report.

The report also revealed QMC refuses to renew residency permits for most workers which foreign workers need to work in the gas rich country.

Labourers revealed that they paid between $900- $2000 to recruitment agencies to get the jobs.

Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy said it learnt about the situation in July and forced QMC to pay Labourers at least 3 Months salaries. The committee also admitted wages were still being paid.

The Committee has condemned the act as ” unacceptable” and fully committed to ethical treatment for the workers.

Amnesty International accused FIFA of neglecting human rights abuses in the building of the stadiums and claims the Committee’s standards were not enough to contain the human right abuses to the workers.
