Ivory Coast suffered its first militant attack since 2012, the Government announced on Thursday.
The attack happened within the borders with Burkina Faso on Thursday Morning in the Kong Region of Northern Ivory Coast.
10 Soldiers were killed and six injured according to Lassina Doumbia , head of the Ivorien Armed Forces.
It’s not clear who carried the attack, which is the deadliest attack since Al-Qaeda claimed attack of the resort Grand Bassam in 2016, killing 19 people.
The attackers believed to be from militant Jihadists cells in Burkina Faso. Both Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso launched a joint military offense to stop the expanding presence of ISIS and Al-Qaeda in the Region.
Earlier this week, Boko Haram in Nigeria killed 69 villagers in Borno State wile the American Embassy in Ivory Coast banned staff from travelling to regions bordering Burkina Faso and Mali .
Militants linked to both ISIS and Al-Qaeda have been moving south since the Al-Qaeda faction gained presence in Mali in 2012.
Attacks in Burkina Faso have doubled in 2020 by Al-Qaeda affiliated Militant group, JNIM.
France and USA have taken interests of growing terrorism in the region. France has 5,000 troops stationed while America built a drone base in the Nigerien City of Agadez.
