The maiden edition of the Nigeria Private Investors Football League, NPIFL, has been scheduled to kick off in October/November 2020, organisers have revealed to Complete Sports.

The League will also be dominated by a host of NNL clubs with a handful of privately owned clubs currently campaigning in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, organisers added.

Ekene Adams, a member of the five-man steering committee disclosed that amongst the NPFL clubs expected to participate in the league include FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Mountain of Fire and Miracles kMFM) Football Club, Lagos.

He added that Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has give the league approval to get underway.

“It is a reality”, starts Adams who is chairman of Kada City FC, Lacuna.

“Nigeria Football Federation has sanctioned it and we are looking at October or November as kick off date.

“NPIFL is only trying to restore the pride of Nigeria club football with a view to bringing back the confidence of Nigerians in terms of trust to our domestic football”.

The organisers were billed to unveil the NPIFL in Abuja last weekend at a press conference.
There were talks that already, NPIFL has secured a N400m TV sponsorship and that the emergence of NPIFL was borne out of the need for level playing ground for government funded clubs and their privately owned counterparts.

“You can’t compare the strength of a privately owned clubs to government funded clubs like 3SC, Rangers, Kano Pillars and Enyimba.

“Obviously, there is no financial fair play with those clubs.

“So, we are only trying to come up with what most Nigerians have been agitating for, which is bringing back their confidence into the Nigerian club football.

“Take a look at Nigerian football or sports today, hardly will you see any private investor putting his/her money into it because everybody has lost confidence in the system.

“We don’t run professional league in Nigeria. We are only running government owned clubs who only think of how to satisfy themselves and go away.”
