Veteran Bollywood dance songs top composers, Wajid Khan, has died at the age of 42 after contracting Coronavirus, Press Trust of India news agency reports.
According to his brother, Khan, who had been suffering from kidney issues, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest.
He was laid to rest at a Versova cemetery with close friends and family members in attendance.
A source told news agency PTI that Khan was buried around 1 PM, on Sunday and only 20 people were allowed for the funeral with police security and barricades due to the coronavirus lockdown in Mumbai.
“Only close family, including brother Sajid and friends from the industry were present,” the sources said.
Music composer, Salim Merchant also revealed that the singer-composer was admitted in Chembur’s Surana Hospital a few days ago where his condition deteriorated.
“He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection… He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical,” Salim said in his statement to PTI.
However, several Bollywood celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan, have taken to their respective social media accounts to pay tributes to Wajid Khan.
Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai’s laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers.@wajidkhan7
