With every single that preceded Santi’s brilliant debut album, came an engaging, self-directed flick that flaunted his wide-ranging skillset. Now, on to shooting videos for the standout tracks, Santi unleashes his full might as a director, releasing an actual movie for the Kida Kudz-assisted “Raw Dinner”.
On the Higo-produced track, Santi reaffirms his boss status, singing over the chorus, “run things, no middle man”. On his verse, Santi lets a potential lover know that he has too many demons to commit to one girl. Kida Kudz is similarly non-committal, although he seems more open to getting nasty.
Writing and directing the “Raw Dinner” clip himself, a Santi-led movie has been a long time coming. Releasing a film poster and trailer in anticipation, Santi certainly gave fans ample warning of what was to come, but still, he has managed to blow everyone away with what he’s delivered.
The movie follows Luna, a young girl who’s telekinetic and clairvoyant. She and Santi are a team of crime-fighters, who, on a mission to save Kida Kudz, discover another supernatural girl, Erin. Inviting her to join their team, things take a turn for the terrifying when her true character is revealed.
With some melodramatic acting and narration from Nollywood veteran, Carol King, Santi reimagines the classic Nigerian horror films he so fervently takes inspiration from, and he’s executed this vision excellently. “Raw Dinner” is currently our pick for ‘Music Video of the Year’.
