The former Governor of Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola on Saturday said with his feat of successfully handing over the mantle of power to a successor of his wish, he has emerged as the godfather of Osun politics.
He made this assertion at a victory celebration organised in his honour by a group within the state All Progressives Congress (APC), identified as APC En-route Rauf at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo.
Aregbesola, who spoke in Yoruba declared that “having successfully handed over to a progressive governor of my wish and I am sure that after his tenure, he will hand over to a successor of his choice too I will relax as a ‘Godfather’ and enjoy myself without any stress.
“I assure the people of the state that my successor, Governor Gboyega Oyetola would consolidate on our achievement and correct our mistake now that his election has been reaffirmed by the Supreme Court,” Aregbesola remarked.
He, however, tasked his supporters and that of Oyetola to consolidate and build a formidable party for the progress of the state.
In his address, Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola expressed his commitment to the development of the state, assuring the people that they would not regret reposing their confidence in his ability to steer the ship of the state to promise land.
“Now that the final judgment has been pronounced, it is time to consolidate on our strength and make Osun another Lagos State governed by only one party,” he stated.
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye implored the teeming supporters of the party to engage with aggrieved party members with a view to bringing them back and make the party stronger in the state.
Early in his welcome address, the state APC chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun said the APC had finally sent the PDP packing from the state, just as he sought the support of the people for the success of Oyetola’s administration.
