Arsenal’s woeful run continues as they lost 2-1 to Brighton and Hove Albion in Thursday night Premier League game at the Emirates, claiming their first-ever away win against the Gunners.

Arsenal have now failed to win their last nine matches across all competitions, their longest winless run in 42 year

It was not the best of home debut for interim manager Freddie Ljunberg who replaced Unai Emery.

It was a game Brighton deservedly won as they bossed possession, edging it 51 per cent to Arsenal’s 49 per cent and had nine shots on target to the home side’s five.

The defeat saw Arsenal Drop to 10th on 19 points, just five points from the relegation zone and 10 points from fourth spot.

The visitors took the lead in the 36th minute through Adam Webster who powered the ball home after the ball fell kindly to him.

Five minutes into the second half Arsenal equalised as Alexandre Lacazette’s looping header from Mesut Ozil corner sailed into the net.

In the 63rd minute Arsenal thought they had taken the lead after David Luiz volleyed in Ozil’s free-kick but the goal was disallowed for offside following consultation with VAR.

And in the 80th minute Neal Maupay grabbed the winner with a glancing header into the bottom corner.

And in the other Premier League game played on Thursday, Newcastle beat Sheffield United 2-1 away.
