The Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Ijele Sports Club, Barrister Ferdinand Naza, has described his club’s 2-2 home draw against Inter Lagos FC in their debut game in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference A at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu on Saturday as a foundation for a better campaign, Completesports.com reports.
Othuke Egbo opened the scoring for Inter Lagos FC in the 11th minute with a beautiful strike that found the far corner of the net.
The goal seemed to awaken Ijele SC, who appeared jittery in the first ten minutes. They found their rhythm, and their energetic captain, Izunna Alex, equalised in the 18th minute with a well-executed three-step move. Adetona Adeyemi then gave the hosts the lead in the 42nd minute, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.

The second half saw both teams cancelling out each other’s incursions. However, a defensive lapse by Ijele SC in the 67th minute allowed Somtochukwu Abraham to score the visitors’ equaliser, ensuring the game ended 2-2.
Speaking to Completesports.com in Enugu after the match held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Naza expressed pride in his team’s debut performance.
“While we would have preferred a win, I am proud of the team’s effort in their debut match. A home draw shows that we have a solid foundation to build on, and it’s clear that the players and coaching staff are putting in the work. This result is a stepping stone, and I am confident that we will improve as the season progresses,” Naza said.
He attributed the draw to lapses in concentration at critical moments, particularly in finishing chances and maintaining defensive discipline.

As Head Coach Fesojaye Tajudeen prepares Ijele SC for their Matchday 2 clash against Crown FC in Ogbomosho this weekend, Naza urged the players and technical crew to stay focused and trust in their preparation.
“An away match is always challenging, but I believe in the team’s ability to rise to the occasion. The boys must play as a unit, stick to the game plan, and showcase the fighting spirit that defines Ijele Sports Club,” Naza added.
