Could Wilfred Ndidi Be On The Move?

Premier League team, Leicester City, had a fantastic season in 2020/21. They managed, as underdogs, to beat an incredibly talented Chelsea side at Wembley, to win their first ever FA Cup, as was reported here by The Guardian. The final was won thanks to an incredible long-range goal from the Belgium Youri Tielemans, that soared into the roof of the net. The Foxes also managed to secure themselves a Europa League spot for the second season in a row. There will be great excitement swirling round the King Power Stadium as the countdown to the new season begins, as most pundits really feel they could go far in the European competition, and could be top-four contenders in the Premier League.

Unfortunately though, they did slip at the last hurdle, when it came to finishing in the Champions League qualifying spaces last season, where on the last day they managed to be pipped at the post by Chelsea after losing at home to Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 in a truly bonkers game. It was actually the second year in a row that they managed to finish out on qualifying for the Champions League by the skin of their teeth, as the year before they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United on the final day to drop them into fifth place.

One of Leicester’s star players for those last two seasons has been the Nigerian defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. He’s been a revelation for the The Foxes and has helped protect their defence with a terrific reading of the game that allows him to make key tackles, blocks and interceptions, and snuff out danger before the opposition get too close to their goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel’s, goal. His performances have been so outstanding that a number of clubs have apparently been adding him to their summer shopping list. It might be time that Ndidi feels he’s reached everything he can with Leicester and fancies a step up to the Champions League to aid his development as a player. He was reportedly disheartened by falling short again with Leicester, as we wrote about here at Complete Sports.

One of the most realistic destinations for Ndidi could be Manchester United. They seem to be in the process of adding some quality reinforcements to an already stacked squad that managed to finish second last year, just behind their arch rivals Manchester City, and also reached the Europa League final, where they were defeated on penalties by Spanish side Villarreal.

Their fans have been demanding that the club spend big on players this summer, after there were huge fan protests last season. It seems that the club’s owners, the Glazer family, have listened to the irate supporters and are about to splash out £72.9 million on exciting attacking talent Jadon Sancho from German side Borussia Dortmund. As soon as news of the Sancho transfer hit the internet, Man United fans were already urging the Glazers to dip back into their deep pockets and sign Ndidi, so much so, that his name started trending on Twitter.

If the Super Eagles’ star did make the move to Old Trafford, then the Red Devils would no doubt find themselves with even shorter odds to win the league this upcoming season than the 9.00 that they’re being offered currently at most online bookmakers. If you wanted to take a punt on the football or any other sport then head over to AsiaBet, as they have you covered. They’ve been the most trusted online gambling guide since 2013, and they’re on a mission to bring you all the top online betting recommendations and expert guides to betting in Asia, all in one place. They also have all the best sign-up offers and cash-back deals on offer in various countries, so you’ll never feel short changed.

As time progresses over the transfer window, it will be interesting to see where Ndidi ends up. Or whether the Leicester manager, Brendan Rodgers, can actually convince the player that the best thing for his career will be to stay where he is, with team-mates he knows and is comfortable playing with, and crack on for another exceptional year, that would hopefully repay the club and himself with Champions League football. Only time will tell.
