For the past year, Lagos-based dance crew, Dream Catchers have been gaining steady recognition since a video of them dancing to “Nowo” by Dj Spinall & Wizkid went viral, catching the attention of international superstars like Naomi Campbell, Rihanna and Diddy.
Now, the adorable dance crew have gotten some more love from one of the most popular stars in the world right now, Cardi B.
Dream Catchers are a group of young, underprivileged kids, whose welfare — from education to shelter — is taken care of by the group’s founder, Seyi Oluyole, who uses dance to encourage them to stay in school and better their lives.
Last year, after meeting Naomi Campbell, the young dancers got to perform at BBK’s Homecoming concert. Now, they’ve gained the attention of Cardi B, after posting a video of themselves dancing to her Bruno Mars-assisted hit, “Please Me”.
Sharing her love for them on Instagram, the Grammy-winning rapper said:
“I want to thank Dream Catchers for always showing love and sending me sweet videos. It makes me soo happy to see kids loving me and even knowing me and enjoying my music from across the world.
Follow them if ya ever want to feel motivated and want a smile on your face! These kids are always full of life and energy.”
We can’t imagine what it must do for these kids’ morale to be constantly recognised and appreciated by so many global superstars. We’re glad that some of our homegrown talents are being celebrated so passionately, and we’ll continue to root for them.
