We’ve seen cases of some Nigerian football stars slipping into penury after retirement. While this may be the fault of some of the players in question, past governments are largely responsible for neglecting footballers who have done the country proud.

This is why the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is now making plans to set up a foundation that will focus on the welfare of Nigerian players, especially when they retire.

Football Live reports that president of the federation, Amaju Pinnick, revealed this in his speech at the recently concluded 2019 NFF Awards — where the history-making Super Eagles class of ’94 was honoured. In Pinnick’s words:

“[Footballers] are a most important aspect in the game because, without them, there will be no FIFA, NFF, sponsors, fans and others.

The NFF will be putting in place the NFF Foundation principally to look into the welfare of players.”

From putting plans in place to build 74 new pitches across Nigeria to organizing the second NFF Awards and now this, there’s no doubt that the present administration of the federation is on a roll, and we’re totally here for it.
