Over the weekend, one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing happened at the Madison Square Garden in New York: Anthony Joshua lost his world titles to Mexican-American boxer, Andy Ruiz Jr in a stunning defeat that left us all teary-eyed.

Well, we can spend all day talking about how Anthony Joshua lost the fight because he was distracted by his ambition to take on Deontay Wilder and become the undisputed world heavyweight champion, or we can look forward to what comes after this sad phase.

Without a belt to his name now, Joshua is bound to start from scratch, but this isn’t as bad as it sounds. In the fight deal, there’s a rematch clause, which is a chance for the loser to challenge the winner to another bout to determine the ultimate champ between the two.

With the rematch in view, we’re glad Joshua is keeping up a positive spirit. From accepting the referee’s decision to call the fight in the seventh round to congratulating Ruiz, the British-Nigerian has made it clear that this is just a temporary setback, and he will bounce back soon.

He’s quoted by The Guardian as saying:

“This is part of a journey I am on. This is boxing and what I have to do is reevaluate the situation, make it better and we go again. We didn’t come this far to stop, fold under pressure.

We came this far and I feel we can definitely go a lot further.”
