Ghanaian government has issued a restriction order on travellers from countries with over 200 confirmed cases of Coronavirus Covid-19.

A travel advisory signed by a Ghanaian minister of information, Kojo Nkrumah, on Sunday, says people who have been to countries with over 200 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the last 14 days would not be allowed into Ghana.

Ghanaian citizens or persons with Ghana residence permit, are exempted from the ban.

The minister, added that however, persons allowed into the country will undergo a 14-day mandatory self-quarantine.

Nkrumah noted that the ban was placed after confirmed cases of coronavirus increased to six “after four more people, all of whom who traveled abroad, tested positive”.

The advisory reads: “All travel to Ghana is strongly discouraged until further notice.

“Any traveler, except for Ghanaian citizens and persons with Ghana residence permits, who, within the last l4 days, has been to a country that has recorded at least 200 cases of Covid-19 will not be admitted into the Ghanaian Jurisdiction. Airlines are instructed not to allow such persons to embark. Border posts are instructed not to allow such persons into the jurisdiction.

“There will be a mandatory l4-day self-quarantine for persons who are otherwise allowed to enter the Ghanaian jurisdiction. Guidelines for sclf-quarantine will be available at the various Ghanaian ports of entry.

“Enforcement protocols are being deployed in collaboration with state security and health authorities. Persons determined to be unable to satisfactorily self-quarantine will be quarantined by the State.

“Any admissible traveler, who exhibits symptoms of Covid-l9 will be quarantined and tested upon reaching Ghana.”

Ghana’s restrictions will affect travellers from about 30 countries, mostly in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

For now, no African country might be affected by the restrictions as none has recorded about 200 cases. At least 19 countries in Africa including Nigeria have reported at least a case of the disease.
