Three months ago, Davido’s “Fall” became the first Nigerian music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube. “Fall” was quickly followed by Yemi Alade’s “Johnny”, and now Sinach‘s “Way Maker” — making her the first Nigerian gospel singer to achieve this feat.
Nigeria is an extremely religious country, so gospel music is very highly streamed and celebrated. In the four years since its release, “Way Maker” has become a particular favourite, especially in religious settings and amongst adults.
The powerful song speaks of God’s omnipresence, hailing Him as the one who paves the way for us, working miracles and healing us, just as He promised to do. The video for “Way Maker” sees Sinach at one with nature, beautifully bellowing her words of praise.
Of course, Sinach celebrated her two big achievements — reaching 100 million views on YouTube and being Nigeria’s first ever gospel act to do so — by praising God. She shared the big news on her Instagram page, exclaiming:
“100 million celebrating Jesus ! HE’S THE ANSWER TO IT ALL, JESUS!”
