Nigeria Is Sixth African Country With Highest Number Of Coronavirus Cases – World Health Organization

World Health Organisation () chart on Saturday, March 28, 2020, shows that is the sixth African country with the highest number of cases.

Nigeria’s case of COVID-19 rose from one to 81 cases in about four weeks beginning when an Italian man was confirmed its first index case on February 27.

WHO stats on the pandemic which has infected over 400,000 people globally with over 25,000 deaths recorded as of March 28th, shows that:

  1. South with 927 cases and two deaths
  2. Algeria with 305 cases with 21 deaths
  3. Burkina Faso with 146 cases and three deaths
  4. Ghana with 132 cases and three deaths
  5. Senegal with 105 and no death
  6. Nigeria with 81 cases and one death.

WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had warned African countries to prepare for the worst, adding that the continent needs to wake up as official numbers of COVID-19 cases do not likely reflect the full picture.

He warned that numbers of positive cases could scale up quickly if care is not taken.
