The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Malam Muhammad Bello has ordered the closure of markets and neigbhourhood centers following the outbreak of coronavirus in Abuja

He also ordered the immediate closure of churches and mosques in the FCT.

However, he stated that only shops selling food items and other essential commodities are allowed to be open.

The minister explained that containing the virus depended largely on personal choices, as he announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration has raised an emergency response team to tackle the spread of the virus.

He said: “Shops in the markets and neighbourhood centres in the FCT are to be shut to traders except those who sell essential commodities and medicines. However, pharmacies and supermarkets selling essential products and bakeries are to remain open but abide strictly by laid down measures.”

Workers on Grade level 1 to 12, have also been directed to work from home as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus.
