For many years, Barbie has aimed to inspire young girls, encouraging them to dream big, through their career dolls and their Shero dolls.

To mark their 60th anniversary and this year’s International Women’s Day, they are not only giving girls the tools to imagine but showing off the women who have realised their dreams, with their collection of 20 role models, including Yara Shahidi, Frida Kalo and Adwoah Aboah

The British-Ghanian model has continually used her platform to support women and promote their enterprise, channeling her feminist activism into Gurls Talk — an online community in which young women are invited to freely discuss issues such as sexuality, depression, art and more.

By taking submissions and providing hotlines, as well as hosting free events, Gurls Talk is a safe space for women all over the world to share their personal experiences amongst other women in a completely judgment-free zone.

Recognising Aboah’s achievements as both a model and an activist, Barbie has enlisted this inspirational figure for their latest mission to inspire young girls to be as confident in their goals and aspirations for life as their male counterparts.

Reported in Haper’s Bazaar, Adwoah Aboah shared her affinity for Barbie’s project, saying:

I want to help close the Dream Gap, so that girls don’t have to question if they are smart or brave, and have no limits placed on their capabilities by society.”

And as for the impact she hopes her doll will have, Aboah told her Instagram followers:

“All I hope is that some little girl out there sees this and realises that her wildest dreams are possible if she puts her mind to it.”

The Adwoah Aboah doll will has two outfits so far. One of them is a leopard print midi skirt paired with a knitted Gurls Talk sweater, paying homage to her benignant platform.

For her other outfit, the Adwoah doll relives a defining moment in the model’s career, wearing a miniature replica of the Halpern mini Aboah wore to receive her ‘Model of The Year’ award at the 2017 Fashion Awards — including the Louboutin platforms and the Stephen Jones turban, of course!

“I love that Barbie offers so much choice now, but to see my own doll that has my freckled skin, skin colour, shaved head and tattoos is so meaningful to me!”
