Let’s start with an undeniable truth: Lately, the Super Eagles haven’t been inspiring much confidence in their fans. As the team’s coach, we trust Gernot Rohr to fix this by selecting the best players whenever a game is coming up.
Recently, he released the 23-man squad list for Nigeria’s upcoming friendly games against Seychelles and Egypt. In addition to the absence of Kelechi Iheanacho and Mikel Obi, we couldn’t help but notice two new names on the list – Paul Onuachu and Valentine Ozornwafor.
So, who are these two players that will soon make their debuts for the senior men’s national team?
Paul Onuachu
The 24-year-old is a striker for Danish club, FC Midtjylland. In 2015, he came into the limelight when he made an appearance on the Nigeria under-23 team. After helping his club win the 2017-18 Danish Superliga, he’s currently Nigeria’s top scorer in Europe this season — 17 goals in 29 games.
Valentine Ozornwafor
The 19-year-old has plied much of his trade in Nigeria, playing for Enyimba FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and making an appearance for Nigeria on the Flying Eagles team. He did so well in the just concluded 2019 Under-20 AFCON in Niger that he made the CAF Best XI.
