The Federal Government has revealed that 5,433,394 poor Nigerians who are on the conditional cash transfer program have started to receive N5,000 each monthly.

This was made known by the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) in a series of infographic tweets on Monday, February 10, 2020.

According to the infographic, as of January 31, 2020, the beneficiaries are drawn from 1,080,240 households across 32 states.

The office also said from 43,258 communities in 35 states it has captured 9,458,160 individuals on the national social register of poor and vulnerable households.

NASSCO said the national social register would be used to support outreach, registration and determination of potential eligibility for one or more social programs for poor & vulnerable Nigerians.

KanyiDaily recalls that four months ago, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, Maryam Uwais disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been paying N5,000 monthly to poor Nigerians through the National Cash Transfer initiative.

Mrs Uwais revealed that 620,947 poor and vulnerable Nigerians have benefited from the scheme. She, however, debunked media reports claiming that 6.6 million people were being paid the N5,000 monthly stipend.
