Alex Iwobi
Arsenal hero Paul Merson says Alex Iwobi’s arrival at Everton has made the Toffees a better team, Sports Extra reports.
Iwobi was a £40m deadline day arrival at Goodison Park in the summer and has started superbly for the Toffees, scoring two goals in three appearances for Marco Silva’s side.
The Nigerian scored on his full debut against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup and followed that up with another goal four days later in a 3-2 EPL win over Wolves at Goodison Park.
“Everton have a chance too if they can get themselves going,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“Getting beaten by Villa was a blessing in disguise. I think it woke a few players up.
“Marco Silva changed his team after that and it’s starting to click. They’re a better team now with Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean. Both have to play. If he sticks with it they won’t be miles away.
Merson also believes Everton can break into the top six this season at the expense of Premier League rivals Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
Everton have also enjoyed a promising start to 2019/20 season, losing just one of their opening four games to sit sixth during the first international break of the season.
…Sigurdsson hails instant impact at Toffees
Everton playmaker, Gylfi Sigurdsson, is full of praise for Alex Iwobi, following his instant impact in the team since arriving from Arsenal on deadline day, Sports Extra reports.
Sigurdsson said Iwobi’s goals for the Toffees, has boosted his confidence level.
“Of course for him (Iwobi), for an attacking player, it’s nice to get that first goal early on,” Sigurdsson told Liverpool Echo.
“It’s good for the confidence and all of the other boys, not just him (Iwobi), Fabian (Delph) coming back from injury and Djibril Sidibe, who made his Everton debut against Lincoln City there’s good depth in the squad at the moment.”
