Paul Onuachu caught our attention a few months ago, when he scored the fastest goal in the history of the Super Eagles. Now, he has left FC Midtjylland to join Belgian club, KRC Genk, in a deal that has made him the most expensive Nigerian player to leave a Danish club.
According to Danish tabloid newspaper, Ekstra Bladet, Onuachu’s transfer cost KRC Genk €7 million (over N2.81 billion), a value that may increase when you add bonuses. The transfer fee beats the €3.3 million that was paid for Nigerian player, Femi Ajilore, before he left FC Midtjylland in 2008.
This means that Onuachu has now broken Ajilore’s record. Given that 17 goals from him helped FC Midtjylland finish first in the Danish Superliga last year, this feat is not a surprise. Needless to say, this record has set a new bar for Nigerian players plying their trade in Denmark.
