Now that the NBA season is over, Giannis Antetokounmpo has shifted his focus to the Greece national basketball team. The team is currently gearing up for the 2019 Basketball World Cup in China, where Antetokounmpo will make history as the first reigning NBA MVP to play in the tournament.
There have been 17 editions of the Basketball World Cup so far, and in 2014, American player, Kevin Durant almost became the first reigning NBA MVP to feature in a tournament, but he ended up withdrawing due to fatigue.
Having played in the 2014 Basketball World Cup, 2015 EuroBasket and the 2016 Olympic qualifiers, this will be the fourth time Antetokounmpo will join the senior Greece national basketball team for an international competition.
Given his achievements in the NBA, a lot of eyes will be on the Greek-Nigerian once the tournament starts on August 31. As the MVP, we expect him to do what he does best, and to take it easy on Nigeria if they meet in the competition.
