At Konbini Nigeria, we love discovering and sharing great music with each other (and jamming to our newfound favourites all day long).

But instead of just selfishly sharing these songs amongst ourselves alone, we’ve decided to create a list of all the newly released albums and EPs that have caught our attention, stolen our hearts and are constantly on repeat on our devices.

Last month, we highlighted some great albums and EPs — from Tyler, the Creator’s masterful IGOR to Runtown’s impressive Tradition. Now, we are back to celebrate some June 2019 projects we think you’ll love as much as we do.

Rema Freestyle EP by Rema

Just three months after the release of his eponymous debut project, 2019’s biggest breakout star, Rema, returns with another impressive EP — a collection of cleaned-up versions of his viral Instagram freestyles — reaffirming the 19-year-old’s versatility and raw talent.

Standout Tracks: All four songs.

Diaspora by GoldLink

On Diaspora, GoldLink’s hugely ambitious sophomore album, the Grammy-nominated rapper effortlessly incorporates a variety of sounds and influences — from afropop to reggae to r&b — and the result in one of the year’s most expansive, unforgettable releases.

Standout Tracks: “Zulu Screams”, “Joke Ting” and “No Lie”.

Happiness Begins by Jonas Brothers

With Happiness Begins, the first new Jonas Brothers album in about a decade, the trio have pulled off a shockingly seamless comeback — indicating that the time they spent apart, in a bid to find their individual voices, has somehow made them a stronger, more cohesive group.

Standout Tracks: “Sucker”, “Don’t Throw It Away” and “Rollercoaster”.

ABENG by Walshy Fire

For his debut solo album, ABENG, Walshy Fire — one-third of the hit-making EDM group, Major Lazer — brought together a bunch of gifted artists from all around Africa and the Caribbean to help realise his dancehall-afropop vision, and the final product is a towering achievement.

Standout Tracks: “Call Me”, “No Negative Vibes” and “Show You Off”.

ANIMA by Thom Yorke

ANIMA, the third (and best) solo album from Radiohead frontman, Thom Yorke, is a staggeringly evocative masterwork — one that boasts some of the most thoughtfully written, disorientingly produced and passionately performed songs of the rock star’s iconic career.

Standout Tracks: “Last I Heard (…He was Circling the Drain)”, “Dawn Chorus” and “Not The News“.

OASIS by J Balvin & Bad Bunny

Following the release of J Balvin and Bad Bunny’s solo LPs (Vibras and X 100pre respectively), as well as their Grammy-nominated team-up on Cardi B’s “I Like It”, the Latin juggernauts finally join forces for OASIS — a powerhouse collaboration that plays to their individual strengths.

Standout Tracks: “CUIDAO POR AHÍ”, “QUE PRETENDES” and “COMO UN BEBÉ”.

Hentai by Remy Baggins

While Remy Baggins’ sexy, transgressive new body of work, Hentai, features a few scene-stealers — from the sultry-voiced Funbi to the always great Ladipoe — the project is clearly all about him, reintroducing the self-assured producer-artist as a talent deserving of our attention.

Standout Tracks: “SECRETz”, “vibrate” and “NakedxSavage”.

In Her Feelings by Omawumi

For over a decade, Omawumi has proven herself to be one of the most consistent singer-songwriters in Nigeria, and on her new body of work, In Her Feelings — a lean, career-best effort — her inimitable voice and solid penmanship are allowed to shine brighter than they ever have.

Standout Tracks: “For My Baby”, “Mr Sinnerman” and “True Loving”.

Lokal by Michael Brun

Haitian DJ and producer, Michael Brun wanted his debut LP, Lokal, to introduce a wider audience to the music of his home country, and the far-reaching project — which melds Haiti’s konpa and rara with afropop, dancehall and other party-starting genres — is an undeniably valiant attempt.

Standout Tracks: “Eda”, “Pa Pale” and “Peze Kafe”.
