Former Super Eagles forward, Benedict Akwuegbu, has made a bold return to Nigeria’s top-flight league, NPFL, after being appointed as Club Consultant to Plateau United, Completesports.com reports.
Akwuegbu, during his illustrious career, represented Nigeria at U17, U20, U23, and senior levels.
Following successful spells in Europe, particularly in Austria where he was nicknamed the ‘Austrian Bomber’ for his goal-scoring prowess, Akwuegbu founded Akwuegbu United FC in Owerri and now runs Ben Akwuegbu United FC in Jos.
He served as Heartland FC’s Assistant General Manager from 2011 to 2012 under General Manager Fan Ndubuoke, during Rochas Okorocha’s tenure as Governor of Imo State. The club won the National FA Cup in consecutive years.
